ANU Connect Ventures



Professor Tim Hirst is the Chief Executive Officer of ANU Connect Ventures. Tim is an entrepreneur and academic with over 25 years research and innovation experience in biomedical fields. He has held leadership positions in researchintensive universities in the United Kingdom and Australia and hes been a non-executive director of biotech companies, innovation incubators and major national research facilities. Until recently he was Deputy Vice-Chancellor at the University of Sydney with strategic responsibility for the Universitys research and innovation portfolio. Prior to moving to Australia, Tim held the Chair of Microbiology at the University of Bristol. He was a founding director and Chairman of Aegis Pharmaceuticals Ltd, a spin-out company from the University of Bristol, developing novel therapies for treating chronic allergic and autoimmune disorders such as diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis and inflammatory bowel disease. He was until recently Executive Chairman of Hunter Immunology Ltd, a NSW-based company specialising in the development of therapeutic and preventative vaccines. Tim has a BSc (Hons) in Biochemistry from the University of Kent and a Doctorate (DPhil) from the University of York. He also holds the position of Professor in the John Curtin School of Medical Research at ANU.
